Yun and I took her mom and grandma to Seattle to see her brother's new baby. The temperatures were in the mid 90s, so the sun and heat were a bit much for the old ladies. Yun's grandma walks with a cane and is a bit unsteady on her feet. There is a little park next to the famous Pike market. I told Yun I was going to do a drawing of the totem pole down by the water. She asked if I could take her grandma, so her and her mom could go around and do some shopping without having to lug grandma. No sweat. They left and as I entered the park, I knew I had to put grandma in the shade or she would melt quickly. The first thing I noticed though, was that the area with shade was very limited. There are tons of tourists around but none of them have shade. You see, the shade is cornered by the drug dealers and homeless people. They have to be there all day. It's their office. Obviously they get there early and take the shade spots. There happened to be a tiny space so I was able to park grandma in between the pot dealers and a big heavy set homeless guy with a large beard. Yun's grandma doesn't speak English, so she was none the wiser about what was happening. I had to leave her there alone because to do my drawing of the totem pole I had to be positioned elsewhere, in the sun of course. Every 10 minutes or so I would look back to see that she was doing OK. She seemed content surrounded by her new friends. I finished in about an hour and went over to her. I showed her what I'd drawn and the homeless guy got very interested. We had a long talk while we waited for Yun and her mom. He told me the whole history of the totem pole. He was a regular encyclopedia. Finally Yun showed up and grandma said goodbye to all her drug dealer pals. Another typical day of vacation.

In Vienna, they have Wienerschnitzel. Now in New York we have Weinerspitzer. Ours is a little saltier.

In Seattle it doesn't get dark until 10 PM. That means the fireworks don't go off until very late. So of course, I didn't see the fireworks displays. I did however hang out where they sell the stuff. The staff who work at the TNT fireworks pop up shop, happen to be school teachers making some extra bucks over the summer holiday. I thought it would be hooligans stopping by to purchase bombs and rockets but it was mostly families. Mom and dads with little kids in tow, asking what they wanted. A very wholesome atmosphere indeed. Everyone said hello to their favorite teachers. The only Hooligan happened to be me, the clown with the sketchbook and the sunburned nose.

Yun always asks me, why does every team I root for suck? I'm just lucky I guess. I can't argue with her because it's true. We took in a Mets game at Citifield. Boy, do the New York Mets stink. They lost once again, of course. We still managed to have fun in the sun. It was over rather quickly, so I just concentrated on how many hot dogs with sauerkraut I could eat. I really wanted to go out to Coney Island and see the Mets minor league team play but they were out of town. So we ended up in Queens. I made a few VINE movies of our day. IF you are new to Vine, you can find me on there to follow.

I'm certainly no expert on great design. In my apartment, I would like to be surrounded by things that are designed really well. Deep down though, I'm a lover of junk. My wife helped me to elevate my game. Years ago, she introduced me to the store, Design Within Reach. No matter what you purchase there, it will make you appear like you understand great design. They do all the work. Buy something from there. Put it in your house and watch as your friends gush over how much style you have. If you are clueless, all you need is some dough to make yourself look a bit more classier than you really are. Over the years, my junk has faded away. Now I live like Yves Saint Laurent. Sort of.

It would seem to me that almost everyone in the world, at one time or another, lived in Brooklyn. Recently, I've been running into my childhood friends from Long Island. When I tell them I now live in Brooklyn, they all say, "oh I used to live in Brooklyn too." When I tell them what neighborhood, they all say, "I lived in that neighborhood too." When did all this happen? The, everyone being from Brooklyn thing? What you should know about Brooklyn is that it is frigging enormous. It's about the size of Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, North Dakoda and New Mexico combined. When you drive on the BQE, the neighborhoods never end. If you watch the HBO series, GIRLS, they never leave Brooklyn. They are stuck in this vast country abutted to Manhattan, but they just can't ever seem to leave it. I understand. A friend of mine from childhood told me her husband grew up in this house, which is a few blocks away. So I did a drawing of it. This is typical Brooklyn but then again, I don't need to tell any of you that because all of you have lived there at one time or another. Right?

I got a new app for my iphone. It's called PhotoSketch. It promises more than it can deliver. I took this self portrait. The original one taken from the app was really crappy. I had to take it into photoshop and darken it up and retouch it some. In the end, it looks halfway cool. I added the type in photoshop too. So if you are looking for a different way to screw around with your photos, why not try this free app. Just make sure you know photoshop.

Recently, Kanye West did an interview with the New York Times about his upcoming album. Check it out here. You will see why he will make a perfect Kardashian after reading it. His ego is so huge that his quotes become quite laughable. The only problem is that you are not laughing WITH him. For instance, when asked if he was conscious about calling out President Bush at the Katrina telethon or just going on instinct. He says, and I quote: "Yeah it was pretty bugged out. When you think about it, I was wearing like, a Juicy Couture men's polo shirt. We weren't there, like, ready for war." Say what? When asked how grabbing the dumb MTV award away from Taylor Swift made him an enlightened soul? He says, and I quote: "It only led me to complete awesomeness at all times. It only led me to awesome truth and awesomeness... That's all it is." Say what? He's also quoted as saying, he doesn't care about the Grammys. Then he rambles on endlessly about the Grammys letting you know he deep down cares greatly about a lot of petty things. There are plenty of other great quotes. “I am so credible and so influential and so relevant, I will change things. So when the next little girl that wants to be, you know, a musician and ... to express her talent ... that thing is more fair because I was there.” Say what? ANother quote is: “I think what Kanye West is going to mean is something similar to what Steve Jobs means. I am, undoubtedly, you know, Steve Jobs of Internet, downtown, fashion, culture. Period. By a long jump. ... I understand the culture. I am the nucleus.” He's insane and wacky. It makes for good comedic reading if you have some free time. He is quickly becoming Mr. Kim Kardashian.

I recently published a few blog posts. One was about a portrait of me taken by a semi-famous photographer and I mentioned a shirt I was wearing with my logo on it. Many people wrote to ask where they could buy one. Also I wrote another blog post mentioning I put lots of new original paintings in my ETSY store. More people wrote to me asking where they could find my ETSY store. I was a bit surprised because all you have to do is go to my blog. Along the right side I have many clickable buttons just like the ones I posted pictures of here. Click on the squirrel that says store and you will be sent to my ETSY store. Click on the Angelina photo and you will be sent to my t-shirt shop. It's easy. There are a million other buttons to click onto also. You can follow me on YouTube, Pinterest, Tumblr, my Facebook fanpage, Instagram and much much more. So if you haven't done so already, now is the time to get connected to Tommy Kane enterprises.
